Historical perspectives including the Digital Revolution and the Information Age have contributed to the evolution, nature and use of information and communication technology.
The information age is a period in time that is characterised by the use of computers and is associated with the Digital Revolution or otherwise known as the Digital or Computer Age. This technological era has sparked changes to industry, business, communities and families in the way technology is innovated, researched, created and used to transfer information, access information, communicate locally and globally, and perform daily tasks. The flow of information through computers, smart phones, entertainment, household technologies etc has altered life.

The experimentation and technological development during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s paved the way for an increase in the presence of personal computers and the Internet in the 1980s. These increases have lead to the Digital Revolution and can be described as change from analogue, electronic and mechanical technology to digital technology.
