Community Organisation that support homeless people:
Community organisations throughout Australia assist and support homeless people to satisfy their specific needs. These groups are often non-governemment organisations that may support a variety, or the most significant needs of homeless people. Many of these community organisations have evolved or developed as a result of a need that has stemmed from inequities homeless people face.
These needs have been supported in an interralated manner and have a highly signiifcant role to play in addressing the issues of concern of homeless people, which in turn may lead to reducing the inequities the group experience.
In Australia many organisations are designed to meet the needs of this group. Each organisation targets different aspects of this group, some meeting their day-to-day needs, others aiming to promote the overall feelings of satisfaction relating to wellbeing. This in turn can create equity for this group. Some organisations within the community that support the homeless people include Australian Red Cross, The Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society, Father Chris Riley's Youth off the Street, Mission Australia, Orange Sky Laundry, The Big Issue, hostels and other refuges.
These community organisations assist homeless people to satisfy their needs in a variety of different ways and the degree to which they satisfy the needs or how successful they may be might vary accordingly.
The St Vincent de Paul Society is a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and to bring about a more just and compassionate society. The Society aspires to be recognised as a caring Catholic charity offering "a hand up" to people in need. We do this by respecting every person's human dignity, sharing our hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny.
