Support by Community Organisations 

Community organisations throughout Australia assist & support LGBTQIA+ people to satisfy their specific needs. These groups are often non-government organisations that may support a variety or the most significant needs of LGBTQIA+ people. Many of these community organisations have evolved or developed as a result of a need that has stemmed from inequities LGBTQIA+ people face.

These needs have been supported in an interrelated manner & have a highly significant role to play in addressing the issues of concern of LGBTQIA+, which in turn may lead to reducing the inequities that the group experiences.

Some examples of community organisations include Twenty 10, Acon, The Gender Centre, Inner City Legal Centre & Queerspace. These community organisations assist LGBTQIA+ people to satisfy their needs in a variety of different ways & the degree to which they satisfy the needs or how successful they may be might vary accordingly.

Most individuals and families rely on formal support networks at some point in their lives. This is no different to LGBTIQIA+ people who may need support at specific times such as:

* When making a decision to come out

* When discussing their LGBTIQ identity with family and friends

* When discrimination occurs

* Sexual health needs need to be addressed.

* Although many support networks are offered online, LGBTIQ individuals living in rural and remote areas can experience difficulties with accessing these organisations.
