Modern Foreign Languages Update

Week of Languages with Cucina

On the week of the 27th of September, the Leigh Academy celebrated the Week of Languages. The Modern Foreign Languages team decided to use that opportunity to invite all the Year 7 students, during Tutor Time, to experience firsthand exotic foods in our canteen. Mrs Julia Collins, Principal, offered croissants or pain au chocolats to every single student so that they would not miss on this cultural opportunity.

Cucina and the Modern Foreign Languages team worked together to design a menu which offered a selection of typical dishes. Whilst they were eating in the restaurant, students had to complete a range of cultural and linguistic activities, with their Chromebook, about the country which they tasted the food from.

The menu was as follows:

French Monday - pains au chocolat, pains au raisin and croissants

Spanish Tuesday - bread with tomato, garlic and cheese

American Wednesday - pancakes

Italian Thursday - crepe with nutella

Students had, therefore, the opportunity to access different culinary experiences and share these with their peers from other colleges.
