Winter Newsletter 2021

Principal's Letter

Dear Parent/Carers

I am delighted to write the introduction to our first digital newsletter.

As usual we share with you here a sample of some of the wonderful activities, events and opportunities that our students have experienced this academic year so far at The Leigh Academy.

A highlight for me is always our annual Remembrance Service, this year we adapted to ensure we were able to commemorate across the academy whilst also maintaining our Covid safety measures. Year 7 and 8 students were able to participate in College events, laying wreaths and planting ceramic poppies that have previously been displayed at The Tower of London and we welcomed veterans and members of the Royal British Legion. Such a poignant moment when all 1600 of our community stand in silence together in reflection.

We have reintroduced in person year group assemblies this module and this has meant that whole cohorts have been able to meet together and receive important information whether that be Careers talks for year 9, work experience assemblies for year 10, anti- bullying for all year groups. We have also welcomed Year 7, Year 8, Year 10 and Year 11 parents for information evenings since September as well as hosting our successful Post 16 Open Evening in November . Every event that takes place is risk assessed as we continue to do all that we can to keep our community as safe as we can. All of the above events are helping to rebuild connections and strong relationships across our community and stakeholders.

We have also been able to enjoy Christmas lunches and Christmas jumper days, thank you to the generosity of all of our families as you support our fundraising activities raising money for Save the Children and Bantabami Charities.

I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas, and I look forward to welcoming students back in the New Year.

Best wishes,

Mrs Julia Collins - Principal
