Brunel College Update

Brunel college - Modules 1 and 2

After a long period away from Brunel College it has been such a privilege to have our small school community back together again this academic year. In September we welcomed in our latest recruits into Year 7 and with the help of the excellent summer transition camp run by Mr Pickett, they have made an excellent start to their time at The Leigh.

It has been fantastic to be able to welcome parents into the academy for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Since September we have met Year 7 parents and welcomed in Year 8 parents for the first time too even though their children have already spent over a year as Leigh Academy students. Year 8 and Year 10 students have also had an information evening with Year 9 students having their important parent teacher event and options evening in Modules 3 and 4. Year 13 students have been busy completing their UCAS applications and looking at their onward pathways to the next stage of their life, supported by Mr Burton and his Post 16 team. Year 12 students have also had a parent teacher event which we have continued to run on School Cloud following such positive feedback from parents and staff.

Within the College itself we have a new classroom on the top floor plaza which was built over the summer. This room (and all other rooms within first and second floor Brunel) is now home to the English learning area.

This module we say goodbye to Ms Chidgey who has been at The Leigh and a part of Brunel for thirteen years. Throughout her time with us she has been an excellent and supportive member of our tutor team and has seen countless students pass through her classroom doors within the D&T learning area. We wish her best wishes and good luck in her next job.

I look forward to welcoming all Brunel students back in January and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and very Happy New Year.

Mr M. Shepherd - Head of Brunel College
