Maths Update

AQA Level 2 Further Maths

As Module 2 draws to a close, we look back at the highlight of this new academic year; Year 11 students looking to study Maths at post-16 have begun their AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics.

The course is aimed at students looking to bridge the gap between GCSE and 'A’ Level. The aim is that students targeting grades 7+ are then able to prepare themselves for further study whilst solidifying their current GCSE knowledge. Students will see themselves meeting new areas of Mathematics that they would not otherwise encounter such as calculus, linear algebra involving matrices, and more. After such a disruptive few years of education it is great to be offering enrichment again.

Sessions take place after school on Friday afternoons and there has been great turnout for them. Students have even taken to tackling STEP exam questions. For the uninitiated, STEP is a tough entrance exam for many of the top universities such as Cambridge and Warwick. Mr. Gollaglee has said “this opportunity for further study really helps students to develop their problem solving skills and deepen their skillset, this is a course that not many schools are able to offer and it is great that we are able to get so many students joining in with these sessions.”

Here at The Leigh Academy, we are so pleased to be offering this to students and we look forward to seeing how students progress with this over the year.
