Leigh Art Out and About!

With many Covid safety measures such as hand sanitising and mask wearing in place, Leigh Art finally made it out on some trips!

Year 11 - Whitstable Trip

At the beginning of October, Year 11 Fine Art, Graphics and Photography visited our usual favourite spot of Whitstable Harbour, Kent. We visit Whitstable every year with our Year 11 groups so were extremely excited to be able to finally revive our tradition!

Photography students focused on street photography and collecting a vast catalogue of photos through the harbour, beach and High Street. Fine Art students focused on a watercolour painting of the beach and Graphics students drew the layout of the Harbour ready to produce their visitors leaflet. All students benefited a great deal from working onsite, building their supporting material for what will be a hard year ahead of them. We are proud to see our students really taking risks and embracing being out on location.

Yr 13 Fine Art - Tate Britain

With galleries and exhibitions finally open we could not miss the opportunity to see the Paula Rego exhibition at the Tate Britain, which was only on view for a short time. This was the UK’s most comprehensive retrospective of her work, certainly not one to miss!

Students gained an incredible insight into her working practice, being able to see it up close and for some, their first experience of a Tate Gallery. We made the most of our visit by continuing our tour through the Tate Britain's fantastic collection housing works from Rossetti, Whistler, Turner and many more.

Creative Process Live Talks

In early December we have the return of our favourite Live talks from award winning contemporary Artists, hosted by The Training Partnership.

This year we will hear from Kate Malone, ceramic artist, Cathie Pilkington, RA sculpture and figurative artist, Stuart Pearson Wright, artist, and Simon Norfolk, photographer. This is an incredible opportunity for our Post 16 students to hear from leading practitioners, discussing their careers and inspiring the next generation of creative thinkers.

November Mock Exams!

It's that time of year where this year's exam students get a taste of what their end of year practical will be like. With just 2 days for A Level and 1 day for GCSE, all students ploughed straight into their final outcomes with great confidence, creating some stunning artworks. As always the Art team is proud and amazed at the progress our students have made.
