Music

YEAR 7

Since the start of the academic year, Year 7 students have been learning and building towards developing their music theory skills and their performance skills. Students have recently been learning the different notes on a keyboard and have now successfully managed to apply this and complete their first song.  We have had very keen and talented students mastering the 'Super Mario Bros' theme tune, with performances from students every lesson, showcasing their new skills to their peers.

YEAR 8

In year 8, the focus of learning has been about how important music is to life and different cultures and religions. Pupils have been focusing and researching how important the Djembe is to African drumming. Pupils have spent weeks in groups coming together, creating plans and creating their own djembe performances, with some even volunteering to sing in their performances! All groups managed to successfully pull it off and there were many great compositions from students, with their peers respectfully cheering them on and celebrating their successes! Year 8 students learnt about different ryhthms, call and response and how to communicate non verbally with each other. Students also achieved playing in front of other people, which was a first for many of our students!

The Leigh Choir Club entertained students while they  had their christmas dinners in the restaurant. They have been rehearsing every Tuesday after school in the choir club to make sure they were ready for their very first performance. The Leigh is incredibly proud of them all, especially since this is the first time performing for some, in front of people.  The choir will now be getting ready for more shows in the future and are excited to see new faces turn up to join them. A big well done to Halina, Hayden, Madison, Mani, Skyla, Lily, Sudiksha and Deborah. Choir club members badges are on the way!
