Business

New Staff

At the start of Module 2 we welcomed Mr Lindsay to the Business Department. He comes with recent degree in Business, a good range of entrepreneurial experience and has made an excellent start with students across our business subjects.

GCSE

Year 11 students have been revising hard and completed a gruelling full mock exam of paper 1 and 2 for their AQA Business exams.

Class sessions continue to include long writing sessions and games to ensure knowledge is locked in with techniques for everyone.

Friday revision sessions have been popular, with opportunity for more focused responses and time to clarify individual questions.

The revision site is available for all Year 11 students (and anyone with a Leigh account) to explore a variety of revision and learning techniques and secure their knowledge.

BTEC and LIBF

Year 12 students sit their first BTEC Assessment in January and have been busily preparing for Unit 2 Marketing exam. Year 13 are getting ready for the Unit 3 finance exam (controlled timed assignment) and both groups have kept up their enthusiasm for revision and challenge in class.

Likewise the Year 12 Finance students sit their first set of exams alongside the Year 13s sitting Unit 3 exams in January. All students have maintained their focus effectively through a long term, and continue to practise those professional writing skills to showcase their infomed personal financial acumen. Make sure to encourage your young students to engage with their own personal finance options and maximise the returns in their pockets of studying these insightful subjects.

IB Business management

As our Year 13 IB students sat their first full mock exam of the new 2024 exam syllabus, class questions, debate and challenge delved deep into the mountain of theory they needed to recall. Covering 5 topics including Operations, Finance, HR and Marketing, results for these papers come back in January and will help inform students of the focus of their revision as we prepare for the mammoth case response as well as the other 2 exams. The deadline for the IA is fast approaching and everyone is finessing their reports for the first review.

Year 12 students on the IB course worked effectively in teams to present their marketing strategy for the ‘Humble Egg’.  Mr Hart and Mr Lindsay enjoyed professional grade presentations of new product ideas which included: a protein snack, sustainable kitchen grower, egg hunt competition and practice pet (winner!), alongside other entrepreneurial ideas.

It’s a great place to be where 16-17 year old students can get eggcited about the sales possibilities locked down in a humble egg, we did shell out for prizes for the best ideas!
