Duke of Edinburgh Awards Evening

An evening of celebration for the tremendous efforts shown by

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Award winners

On Wednesday 8th November, students, staff and parents and carers came together to celebrate the extraordinary dedication shown by Duke of Edinburgh students to complete their Bronze and Silver Awards. Greeted by the beautiful piano playing of Barnabus, everyone was treated to an evening of wonderful memories.

Not only have the students completed hours learning new skills and sports, but they have given many hours of their own time to volunteer in a variety of settings, for those in need. To top this off, both Bronze and Silver Award students took part in energy sapping expeditions, where they walked for two days (Bronze Award) and three days (Silver Award). Setting up tents and cooking in the open air are not easy tasks, especially when you are tired from walking miles of open countryside and woods, carrying all your own equipment, but this is exactly what our students did.

Despite the rigours of the award, our incredible students still had the energy to share their experiences with their audience which included the DofE Kent Officer, Rob Gill.  We were treated to poems and even a rendition of 'Demons' by Imagine Dragons, by Danielle, who learned to play the keyboard for her skills section. This took a great deal of courage and concentration and we are all very proud of her.

Below are pictures of the evening, and you can see that our award winners are very proud of themselves, and rightly so!

Bronze Award Winners

This year we have had a record number of students sign up for the Duke of Edinburgh Award at The Leigh Academy and we are very excited to see what our students can achieve. We even have our first cohort of Gold Award students who will take on the enviable task of completing their expedition abroad, during their Year 12 studies. We wish all of our students the very best of luck in all their endeavours.
