Mandela

The start of this academic year has been fantastically busy, with a wealth of events and opportunities for our students to engage in; literacy events (Mandela College is currently leading the academy literacy competition!) and cultural and sporting opportunities as well. It has been really heartening to see how well our three Year 7 tutor groups have settled into life at The Leigh.

It was lovely to meet a number of parents across Years 7, 10 and 11 face to face, at our information and parent evenings. It was also lovely to see a number of you attend the Mandela SEN coffee morning in September, and meet the Inclusion Team. In Module 2, we had our service of Remembrance, and have celebrated the Module 1 successes of our Mandela students with our League of Excellence assemblies.

Celebrating Mandela successes beyond the academy

We continue to enjoy celebrating the successes of our students outside of the academy as well. This module, Tabitha continued to compete regularly at a high level in cheerleading, recently winning another silver medal. Samuel has been competing regularly for his athletics club and has recently achieved county selection for his cross-country endeavours. Logan wore his Sea Cadets uniform with pride at our recent Remembrance service, as well as being involved in a range of events in the local area. We are so pleased to confirm that he has passed all of his assessments and is now a fully-fledged Sea Cadet! We'd also like to congratulate our four Mandela students Freddie, Kobe, Ellis and Samuel on their amazing gold medal successes at the South East regional gymnastics competition.

Farewells

We are very sad to say farewell to Mr. Lecky and Mr. Chaggar who are leaving us at the end of Module 2. Mr. Lecky has been a key part of the computing & Mandela (and Chaucer), teams since 2019.  Mr. Chaggar has been a vital member of the Mandela tutor team as well as an excellent maths teacher. We would like to wish them well in their future endeavours.

Finally, The Mandela Team would like to wish all of our staff, parents and students a peaceful and restful break.

Best wishes

Ms. Forde, Mr. Bradley, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Tuck 🎄
