Term 1, 2021 (week 10)
Throughout this week, I spent my time thinking of what strategies to be used in order to promote inclusive education in my teaching process. Finally, I have come up with strategies that I think they help accommodates every students’ differences.
To begin with during my teaching, I often use language that is inclusive of all learners’ experiences, for example; while discussing the content of the learning I try to connect the student lives and the language I often use is inclusive of all learners and their experiences. For example; while discussing topic ‘Kiribati culture’, I did not talk about one part of Kiribati cultures but I include all the learners’ island culture they belong to.
Similarly, during my teaching I always treat boys and girls fairly like no one left behind, while walking around and assisting them I used to help both boys and girls straight away and make their need as my first priority, giving them the same task to do. Not only that but also when talking to them I speak very loudly so that those boys and girls who sit at the back could hear.
Finally, only that but also providing resources that used help make diversity visible and avoid biased and stereotypical representations such as my teaching aids were all written in large fonts and using body language while discussing the notes I speak very loudly and also treating students equally throughout the learning activities.
As a result of practicing inclusive education in the learning and teaching process, I have learnt that they are very effective as they help satisfy students diverse motivational needs.
