The main important part of the learning that teachers should do before preparing the next lesson is the evaluation, it is the process of determining the strength and weakness of the lesson, what went well and what didn’t go well. According to (Disha. M, 2020) he mentioned that this component helps teachers to process and judge the teaching and learning process through the assessments tools applied for students so that teachers could produce effective interventions and study the effectiveness and efficiencies so that it leads to an improved learning achievement for students. However, during my teaching experience, I had practiced and implement this competency in my teaching process and found it out that it is very effective and it is a must to do.
Reflecting back to my experience, doing peer assessment by letting students exchange their book to mark them using the answer sheets is one of the strategies that I had used to evaluate my students’ performances (refer to the journal). It is a strategy that allows student to self-assess their selves and evaluating their learning achievement. According to David Boud he state that this strategy (self and peer assessment) is effective for students where it helps students realize their weaknesses on a particular topic which can motivate them as a challenge.
Moreover, evaluating my lesson plan after delivering a lesson is another strategy I did to state what went well and what didn’t go well throughout the lesson (refer to the picture) . It is the part that I often done in my used lesson plans where I state strengths and some problems I have faced during the teaching and learning process; from there it helps me develop strategic learning interventions to weaknesses area I and my student have experienced in both learning and teaching process, so that we would never face or do the same mistake again in our next classes. For example; I learned that some of my students had lack of vocabularies in their writing, this made me adjusted the usual activities by introducing vocabularies or key terms in my lesson in order to help students get range of vocabularies and could apply them in their writing ((refer to the picture). As supported by the Institute of International Teachers Training, evaluation is the key of the growth and development of both students in their learning and teachers for their profession. It also includes planning lessons and teachers are the factor of growth and development of the teaching and learning process.
Finally, I have also done drawing graphs of students’ assessment result to help analyze student learning activities in order for me to know which topic they found confident and not confident with, by doing this it helps me to develop strategic learning interventions for such weaknesses I have found. (refer to the picture). As supported by KATHLEEN M. CAULEY and JAMES H. McMILLAN), evaluation is the most important part in a teacher’s job as it allows an individual to collect feedbacks for teaching improvement which includes formative and summative assessments.
Overall, it has proven that I had incorporating some indicators of this component throughout my teaching experience and found out that it is very effective as could help teachers in finding out the problems or weaknesses in the teaching and learning process and how to improve them.
