Throughout this week, I have learnt that evaluating the lesson plan after delivering a lesson is very important where it helps me to know what went well and what did not go well in the learning and teaching process, from there gave me a chance to adjust my learning activities. For example; my lesson was not going well because of some student misbehaviors, my games that I should did in my lesson like the grass skirt were not went well, this is because as I was giving them the games rule, they just played the game without following its rules. So what I was doing for this problem, the next day as I was doing again another game in my activity, I start writing their group marks on the board and remind them of their responsibilities in the classroom which is they have to respect the teacher. Gladly what I have seen is that they are work and could manage student behavior.
Similarly, I have learnt that drawing graphs of students’ assessment result is another way I used to evaluate my students’ achievement. It is a very effective strategy where it helps me identify students who really need help and also helps me to know which topic they found confident and not confident with. From there it could help me to develop strategic learning interventions for such weaknesses I have found.
Finally, I have learnt that doing peer assessment by letting students exchange their book to mark them using the answer sheets is one of the strategies that I had used to evaluate my students’ performances. There are some times I asked students to exchange books and marked our individual activity together on the time following the marking criteria. For example; group work activity that I have given student to do is I gave them the formula for the rate, base and the percent and then give them the task to calculate the answer by using the given formulas, they have to create their own steps and working out solving for the answer. If they finished, then let them exchange their work. What I could see is that while displaying the marking rubric on those tasks, they were all having correct answers. While I discussed the note to elaborate it more or add on what they have got by providing steps by steps to develop the concept, they were well understood and seemed they did not need more clarification on this topic. This is a very effective strategy where it allows student to self-assess their selves and evaluating their learning achievement
