Effective teaching is one of the competencies I have applied in my learning and teaching experience. It is about the teachers’ profession in their teaching approaches in order to make the learning achievable from using many strategies and this includes teachers’ behavior and knowledge about applying teaching and learning strategies.
Initially, an important aspect of Effective teaching I have learnt is that coming to class on time and using the whole period effectively following the allocated time bound written in the lesson plan for each elements, like 10 minutes for the Introduction, 20 minutes for the Development and so forth are good strategies that would led the lesson achievable before and on time. For instance; when times I was coming earlier to class before and on time and used the whole period effectively following the time bound for each element, gladly my lesson for that day was finished on time and my teaching goals were achieved by students, this is because the time was so managed well for student to complete their work before time. Supported by Mark Pettit he said that good time management allows you to achieve your goals faster and easier, thus it is very important for teachers to come on time and wises their time wisely in the teaching process.
Similarly, important aspect of Effective teaching I have also learnt is that wrapping up the whole lesson at the end of the lesson and encouraging students to participate in the activities are effective strategies that would led targeted learning outcomes possibly achieved by students. For example, during my experience I often wrapping up the whole lesson before the time is up by creating questions to ask on what has been taught through games such as exit slip, passing around the talking box and etc.(Please refer to the journal). Not only that but also providing constructive feedback on their leaning through giving positive reinforcement like, clapping and using magic words to thank them and commented excellent, very good and keep it up on their book for their participation and great effort, by receiving constructive feedback students are motivated and encouraged to do more activities and they could able to answer questions on what has been taught at the end of the lesson. Therefore being creative includes various strategies to be used in teaching make the learning efficient and effective. (Paul R. Burden )
Additionally, the use of effective resources is another aspect of effective teaching, I really believed that being not resourceful and creative including various strategies to be used in teaching could discourage and demotivate students. This is because it is one of the difficulties I have encountered with during my experienced where my social science lecturer also gives feedback on this area. Therefore it is clear that it is crucial for teachers to be resourceful and using motivating learning activities. For example; letting students work in groups (jigsaw/home-base), compose and sing songs with them, experiment (observations) and providing various activities (simplest to complex). According to the article entitled Use of Resources in Learning and Teaching it stated that by providing effective resources, it helps provide important opportunities for students to explore ideas and knowledge, collaborate, solve problems and develop knowledge and skills.
Finally, it is evidently clear that effective teaching could possibly success if teachers are committed and punctual to attend classes on time and applying teaching and learning strategies properly as well as being valuable to student through behavior, like; being social, positive, creative and interactive.
