Reporting, recording and providing information of students’ learning, performances, achievements and progress is the main important part of the teachers’ responsibility in which they are required to carry out during the PTA to inform parents or guardians about their children’s overall progresses in the learning or report throughout the term. The students’ reports were written in printed document and were also recorded in the data base.
Initially, carrying out a PTA meeting is one of the school functions that it should be carried out every thrice a year at the end of term 1,2 and 3 result. This is the meeting where it involves teachers, students and parents, where a teacher is going to share each students’ report or progresses in any formative and summative assessment they have done within the whole term through the printed written document to parents and students (refer to the journal). In relation with my teaching experience, I have also involved in the PTA meetings (refer to the picture). What I did that time is that I prepare accurate and evidence-based students report card and then describe each of their progression or personal achievement as well their behaviors and performances in the classroom from the first week to the last week to their parents or guardians. It is a very important time where it gives me an opportunity to report students’ attendance, behaviors and performances in the classroom, this what (Balfanz, 2016)also agreed with. Thus I have learnt that reporting isn't all about students' academic progression but it also about reporting students; performances in class including their behaviors and attendance.
Moreover, I have learnt that by reporting students, it helps give me(teacher) the information about my students’ strengths and weaknesses on areas they need to improve on. For instance, most student had problems in word problems in mathematics, so from there I start adjusting my usual activity by giving students more practice task on word problem. At the same time, it also helps students me to know their achievement in their learning and from there they could reflect back to their weaknesses and improve them to avoid failure in the future. And also it gave parents time to think of what plans or ways to do in order to support their children toward their weakness areas in their learning. As supported by the Clevedon School, the reporting system is a way of presenting and clarifying the students’ progress in their learning to the parents that also includes appropriate feedback for helping the growth and development of students’ performances in school. Therefore, reporting system is very effective as it could help students reach the benchmark they are expected to achieve.
To conclude it is evidently clear that making reports of students’ progression really help teachers, students and parents know the overall improvement of their children’s academic achievement. As supported by Osagie (2017), recommended that "proper record keeping in school bring about efficiency, hard work and effective delivery of service including actual information’s". However, when it is not done well it shows failure in the teachers’ work, thus they cannot find who are struggling and really need help, and that would never make growth of students’ performance in their learning.
