Term 1, 2021 (Week 11)
This is the week where I try to focus on alternative curricula throughout my learning and teaching processes. There are things that I have done which are promoting the implementation of alternative curricula in the learning and teaching profession.
Firstly, throughout this week I have applied variety of motivational strategies so that student with different abilities could all motivate in the learning. For example, during my experience I have done designing extra activities like; instead of giving students activities which is only the answering questions, some student would not able to answer some of those questions, so by providing extra activities like the true and false activity, the matching activity and the drawing, which are more simple for the fact that if they are able to do them then they are achieved the learning outcomes. I have also learnt that by giving students a time to draw any shapes they really like whom they think they are concave and convex polygon on the floor with a chalk in their group task was very motivating students, not only but also giving students leaves and flowers to use them to color diagrams in order to make them beautiful.
Similarly, I have also done various teaching strategies that could help diagnose the problem of each students, such as I often write on the board or paper in extra-large fonts to cater the needs of the short sighted ones as well as with speaking clearly louder to those who have hearing problems. And also using body language during discussing the note to help students easily understand the concepts.
Furthermore, this week was also a very interesting week where I have time to teach students how to grow plant with compost. Since it is a week for a competition on which classroom has a very beautiful decoration with having a garden, therefore this activity was seen as the most fascinating activity for them because by considering students’ activity with the existing knowledge or skills, students might show enthusiastic throughout whereby they were interactively involved and helped each other to do the gardening as their routine activity
In conclusion, from my teaching experiences I undergone toward this competency had taught me simple and effective way to implement teaching strategies that would be more helpful to cater students’ learning needs across the curriculum.
