Term 1, 2021 (week 10)
Throughout this week, I focused on the competency which is classroom management. Therefore, there are indicators of this competency I applied during the learning and teaching process. As a result, it is evidently clear that they have greatly impact on the learning and teaching process.
Firstly, in this week I have done various type of grouping method, such as the in numbers, color code grouping method, gender balance and etc. By applying all of these grouping methods I found out that they are very effective as it helps minimize the amount of time spent in allocating students into different groups.
Similarly, another aspect of classroom management I have applied this week is that practicing our classrooms rooms that we have already set them during the learning, such as no one talks if the teacher talk, no playing and etc. From these it helps minimize disruptive behaviors in the classroom and therefore the learning environment would be accommodating where students would feel secured and wanted to learn wholeheartedly.
Finally, this week I spent my time decorating my classroom since it is the week where the MOE staffs are going to check all the JSS TUC 1 classroom, therefore I used to display my teaching aids with student’s work at different learning corners, from this it alters a classroom into a learning room. Also students are love attending every class as they said they felt comfortable as their classroom was neat and tidy with beautiful displayed corners.
In conclusion, I have learnt that a teacher should not apply repeated grouping method as it could demotivate students, I have also learnt that setting up of classroom rules and strictly applying them helps control students’ misbehavior and finally, I’ve come to understand that displaying of students work at different learning corners is very important as it is another way to encourage students to love attending school as they felt comfortable inside the classroom.
