Online Snapshots - Also, as instruction continues through a variety of virtual learning platforms, the Department would like to remind LEAs/schools that it is important to safeguard personally identifiable student information, including photos and video, as required by local district media policies and protections provided under FERPAOpens In A New Window. Be aware that taking screenshots of students is the equivalent of taking photos and all of the same local practices for photographic images that ensure student privacy should be followed.

Research-Based Instructional Models
TPACK model - is a useful model for educators as they begin to use digital tools and strategies to support teaching and learning. This model, developed by educational researchers Mishra and Kohler (2006), is designed around the idea that content (what you teach) and pedagogy (how you teach) must be the basis for any technology that you plan to use in your classroom to enhance learning.
5E Model - active learning model

Resources for Engaging Parents
Talking Points - This resource enables teachers, administrators, and support staff to type a message to parents that is sent as a text message in their native language. This is a great resource for English Learners.
Teaching Tolerance - Advocate for students and families during this crisis by using this resource to evaluate your district’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and offer recommendations for changes.
PBIS World – This supports a 3-tiered model for intervention and offers ideas for parents.
Below are a few resources that can be used as a roadmap to reopen schools and provides essential actions to help you plan and implement a safe, efficient and equitable return to school (whenever that may be).

New TSI schools will not be identified this year
CSI and A-TSI schools - a handful of schools will qualify for early exit, but PDE is not sure yet. They still have to figure out A-TSI.
They continue to work on Career Readiness and Industry-Based. For CR, schools should continue to work activities in this year and collect evidence. Another example - next year's 5th graders will need 6 pieces of evidence.

Content Gap Spreadsheets, coming soon!
These sheets are designed to help teachers determine where there may be gaps in content for the students, for the upcoming year.
This will allow you access to the drop-down menus, under each standard.
"Taught before quarantine" - Students should be proficient here, but still pre-assess.
"Taught during quarantine" - Proceed with caution; Assess the students and possibly reteach concepts.
"Not taught" - This is a major gap in content knowledge for the students.

STEM Pals Website
This project was completed in conjunction with STEM Points of Contact (PoC) from Intermediate Units across the Commonwealth. The website provides resources for continuing STEM and Computer Science (CS) learning during this period of school closures, extending learning into the summer and moving towards the reopening of schools. This website provides support in 5 key areas:
STEM Home Toolkit – find a plethora of activities that can be done by students using household materials. Be sure to look through each of the 8 categories of learning.
STEM for Educators – Targeted towards teachers, this portion of the site highlights an online framework as well as five specific sets of professional learning experiences for educators.
Code at Home – Built with both plugged and unplugged activities, this page provided resources broken down by grade level as well as content areas.
PBS Outreach – PBS has partnered with PDE to provide continuity of education opportunities for students, both online and offline. Learn how to watch your affiliate and explore the resources being provided by each
Kolibri – This is an open source project by Learning Equality to provide a method to deliver educational materials to learners who do not have internet.
Please pass this site along to all of your educators.
2020 Pennsylvania Computer Science For All Summit- NOW VIRTUAL!
Date/Times: self-paced from June 24, 2020 at 9:00 AM through June 30, 2020 11:59 PM (just before midnight)
Location: Online Course
As outlined in Governor Wolf’s PASmart initiative, most good paying jobs in Pennsylvania, and across the country, over the next decade will require some form of education or training in the fields of Computer Science (CS) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). To help meet this demand, Pennsylvania, under the leadership of Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary Pedro Rivera, is working to create and expand access to computer science learning for all.
The Pennsylvania Computer Science for All (CSForAll) Summit offers educators, leaders, and stakeholders the opportunity to share, discuss, and collaboratively develop tools, resources, and practices for CS learning experiences. The Summit specifically focuses on equitably serving historically under-served populations including students with disabilities, English Learners, and females.
Presenters: Various Computer Science Professionals
Credit: Act 48 clock hours
Cost: There is no cost for this course.
