11:00-12:00 Attack Theater
Michele de la Reza, Co-Artistic Director, michele@attacktheatre.com
Allison Popieski, Arts Education Manager, allison@attacktheatre.com
Attack Theatre is a professional contemporary dance company based in Pittsburgh, PA. With more than 20 years of experience conducting in-school performances, arts education residencies and professional development workshops, Attack Theatre's arts education programs are rooted in reflection, investigation and imagination. These programs utilize movement and dance to enhance problem solving and critical analysis skills, build interdisciplinary connections, cultivate communication and cooperation skills, create a deeper understanding of dance as an art form and support students' physical, socio-emotional and creative health. Last year, Attack Theatre was honored by the Consortium for Public Education for the company’s innovative work in the field of arts education in the Pittsburgh region.
Attack Theatre’s professional teaching artists work directly with educators to create personalized workshop content that is relevant and impactful for their students. In 2019, Attack Theatre is piloting an exciting multi-phased project with Wheeling Country Day School (WV). Using dance and multi-sensory learning strategies, this new 10-day program for fourth grade students will focus on Social Studies content utilizing abstract reasoning and critical analysis skills for the creation of a performative student capstone project. Additionally, Attack Theatre is partnering with WCDS to design a literacy and movement program working specifically with first grade and students with dyslexia.
