NOAA Elit Survey
A message from:
Tamara Peffer, Environment and Ecology Content Advisor, PDE
"The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Environmental Literacy Indicator Tool (ELIT) is a federally directed effort to collect information from all public school districts in the Mid-Atlantic region every two years to monitor the status of environmental literacy efforts at a district and other LEA levels. The results from these data help the Chesapeake Bay Program Education Workgroup and the PA Advisory Council on Environmental Education most effectively support statewide, regional, and local efforts to implement strategies that support students’ environmental literacy.
We request that you – or the appropriate district staff – complete the Environmental Literacy Indicator Tool by November 30, 2022 to provide important information about activities related to district-wide environmental literacy curriculum and planning activities.
Follow this link to the ELIT questionnaire: ELIT 2022.
Or copy and paste the URL below into your internet browser: https://jsicklerconsulting.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_40LoooEOU7WNhvE
The ELIT takes an average of about 60 minutes to complete, which includes the time to obtain needed information about district-wide activities. To review the questions ahead of time to help you find the information or identify the right staff person to complete the survey, view the PDF of ELIT Questions.
If your district has previously completed the ELIT, you can view past responses here: https://www.chesapeakebay.net/who/publications-archive/education_workgroup. Accessing previous responses for updates since 2019 or 2017 will reduce response time.
Who should complete the ELIT for your district? Only one person per district should complete the ELIT. The best respondent is someone who works at the district level and has the most familiarity with the full spectrum of environmental literacy and education activities across the district. If your district does not have a position similar to an environmental literacy/education coordinator, consider someone in the role of science curriculum coordinator or similar capacity. Teachers or individuals familiar with just one school or grade range within a district may have difficulty completing these questions."

The 2022 CSEdWeek theme #CSEverywhere highlights the impact that computer science is making everywhere and the relationship that computer science has to different subjects, industries, career paths, and our everyday lives. CS has helped unlock mysteries in math and medicine, it’s been used to create art. CS built your phone, the internet, your favorite games, movies, and tv shows. CS helped us eradicate diseases and enables us to explore the depth of space.
CS helps us imagine ancient civilizations and build the cities of the future. CS is everywhere, and we’re discovering new uses for it every day. A special thanks to the teachers showing us computer science is everywhere!

Ambitious teachers on your staff?
Remember teachers can apply to sit on a PDE committee for the PSSA, Keystone, or CDT to review assessment questions for alignment with the content standards, level of difficulty, bias, clarity, grade appropriateness, and etc. Interested teachers can apply for a committee by visiting the PDE website. Teachers have cited the experience as thought provoking and beneficial to their professional practice!
