Fire and evacuation drills are held regularly. Students are expected to be quiet and orderly, go quickly to their assigned positions, accompanied by a teacher, and remain there quietly until the all clear signal to given. In case of an emergency evacuation of the school parents are contacted by any means possible e.g. the established telephone tree, e-mail or text message. Children are supervised constantly during emergencies.
ISPP uses three different alarms:
Lockdown - A lockdown procedure will be used only if there is an armed and dangerous intruder or similar perceived threat and the buildings and occupants need to be secured. All students and staff are to go inside, lock the room and stay out of sight. A lockdown is announced by a message over the PA system.
Safe Haven- On site safe haven procedures will be instigated in the event that an external threat or threatening situation is imminent and there does not appear to be time for an evacuation of the school. All students and staff go to a prearranged location and await further instructions. A safe haven procedure is announced by a message over the PA system.
Parents will be notified via SMS and email that safe haven is in force.
Parents/Guardians will be able to collect students by coming to school. In order to enter the campus, they will need their ISPP ID card or other photo identification.
Parents/guardians will be directed to the pick up points where they will asked to complete an exit pass (gate pass) and students will be collected from the safe haven venue. Parents/guardians will not be allowed to go directly to the safe haven venue. As parents exit, the School security guards will ask for the exit pass.
In the event parents are unable to collect students, we will allow them to leave campus with an adult designated on the student's emergency contact list and who presents photo ID.
Fire/Emergency- This is used to evacuate the school in any other emergency. All students and staff calmly evacuate to the assembly points. An emergency is announced by long loud bursts of sound over the PA system.
Evacuation & Lockdown
Procedures are in place for emergency situations or evacuation. It is important that parents advise the school of any change in family contact details, to ensure that records are up-to-date including home and work addresses, telephone/mobile numbers and email addresses. To change contact details please inform the Elementary and /or Secondary Offices.
In the event of a disruption to normal conditions e.g. flooding or any civil unrest, the school will follow an emergency action plan. The school will communicate with parents through a variety of means including SMS, email and announcements on the school website.
During the drills, teachers simulate events, as they would occur if these actual situations arose on campus. In order to maintain a safe campus, we carry out unannounced practices throughout the year in order to ensure everyone knows these routines.
There are many steps for teachers and students to follow that vary according to the type of emergency that is being simulated. The steps for parents are far simpler, but do require your complete cooperation if you are on campus at the time of a drill.
Please note that the security guards will not allow anyone to exit or enter during any of these drills.
Please familiarise yourself with the basics requirements for parents and please let the office staff know if you have any questions.
