All students must arrive at school by 7:25am. The bell rings at 7:25am, and homeroom teachers take attendance promptly at 7:30am. Any student arriving after 7:30am will be marked as late.
We kindly ask parents to ensure that their children arrive at school on time each day. Arriving before the start of the school day helps students begin their learning calmly, prepared, and ready to engage in a stimulating and exciting learning experience. We greatly value and appreciate the partnership and support of parents in establishing these responsible routines.
Students arriving late to school must report to the Elementary Office upon arrival so that their attendance can be recorded accurately.
Lateness is monitored and recorded on report cards. Where a pattern of repeated tardiness is identified, parents will be contacted in order to discuss and agree on appropriate strategies to support punctual arrival.
If a student needs to leave school early, parents must make prior arrangements with the homeroom teacher and elementary office before 12:30 that day. Before collecting their child, parents are required to obtain a gate pass from the Elementary Office. For safeguarding reasons, security staff are unable to permit any child to leave the campus without a signed gate pass issued by the office.
The beginning and end of the school day are important times for learning, routines, and community connection. Interruptions to these times can negatively affect a child’s engagement, learning, and overall experience of school.
Attendance is monitored carefully to ensure that your child’s whereabouts are known at all times. In the case of an absence, please submit an absence notification via Toddle or email elementaryoffice@ispp.edu.kh and your child’s homeroom teacher.
We strongly encourage regular attendance and recommend that absences are limited to cases of illness or other unavoidable circumstances. If your child will be absent for one or more days, please inform the homeroom teacher and/or Principal in advance whenever possible. If a student is absent for three or more consecutive days due to illness, a written medical note from a doctor is required upon their return to school.
Please note that the school does not provide learning or class instruction during periods of absence. Regular or extended absences may therefore have a significant impact on a child’s ability to keep up with classroom learning, routines, and social connections.
If a student is absent for 20 or more days during the school year, the Principal will invite parents to meet to discuss the absences and explore ways to support the student’s engagement and progress. Continued absences that give cause for concern may be referred to the Student Support Team for further review and support.
Parents of children who are absent due to illness may contact their child’s teacher to request suggested learning activities that can be completed at home, provided the student is well enough to do so.
Please note that teachers do not prepare or assess learning for students who are taken out of school for family holidays during term time. In such cases, parents are encouraged to support their child’s learning at home by ensuring they read daily or are read to, and by practising basic mathematics facts and skills.
These routines help to maintain continuity in learning, even when students are not in school.
We understand that on occasion, parents may be required to be absent from Phnom Penh and home. On these occasions, if no parent will be at home or in Phnom Penh, the parents should appoint a ‘temporary guardian’ or ‘care-giver’ to take care of their children, and should advise the school: homeroom teacher and Elementary office staff, of the arrangements including emergency contact details and requirements.
In the parents’ absence, the temporary guardian or care-giver may be required to make decisions about the educational, social or emotional needs of the student, support the school in dealing with any issues arising, take responsibility in the case of an accident or injury (e.g. take child to hospital) and give permission for field trips or special events.
Students who are absent from school are not permitted to attend any after school activity, including sports events, School Productions etc. or and any ISPP evening event.
