Your child’s homeroom teacher will notify you of the days when the class has PE, or swimming during the PE lesson. On days when a student has a PE class, they should attend school wearing the ISPP PE uniform.
For (KG-Grade 5) PE lessons:
ISPP t-shirt
ISPP shorts
ISPP cap
Sports shoes
Water bottle
Long hair tied back
No jewellery
For swim lessons:
Well-fitting swimsuit
A towel
Water bottle
Goggles
Swim cap
It is essential to apply or provide sunscreen on swimming and PE days. Staff will not apply sunscreen but are willing to supervise self-application of sunscreen sent from home.
It is expected that if a child is at school, they participate in all lessons, including swimming. If a child is not well enough to participate in swimming, they should not attend school.
We understand that there may be occasions when a child is unable to swim for valid medical reasons. In such cases, this must be communicated to nurses@ispp.edu.kh and the child’s homeroom teacher, and a medical note must be obtained from a doctor.
Valid medical reasons include:
an active ear, eye, or skin infection
an open wound, stitches (sutures), or a cast resulting from injury or surgery
menstruation (for older students) — no medical note is required, but the nurse must be informed
If a child provides a doctor’s note, it will be shared with the nurse. The child will be excused from swimming and will spend the swim lesson in the clinic. Doctor’s notes will be reviewed after two weeks.
If a child arrives at school without a medical note but with a parental request not to swim, the nurse will assess the child. If the nurse determines that the child is fit to swim, the child will borrow a school swim kit. (The school has a range of swim kits in all sizes, which are washed after each use.)
All communication regarding swimming should be directed to the Elementary Office rather than the nurses. Nurses are only able to assess whether a child (without a doctor’s note) is fit to swim.
If a child forgets their swim kit, teachers will, where possible, identify this early in the morning so the office can contact home. The child may borrow a school swim kit if needed. (Swim kits are available in all sizes and are washed after each use.)
In exceptional circumstances, a longer exemption from swimming may be required. Please contact the Principal to arrange a meeting to discuss this
