The Language of Instruction (LOI) at International of Phnom Penh (ISPP) is English: throughout the school, all subjects, except Khmer Language and Literature and additional languages (Language Acquisition/Language B) are taught through the medium of English.
While multilingualism and mother tongue languages are highly valued, English is our primary language of communication, instruction, and assessment. We are committed to providing a high standard of communicating, teaching and learning in English.
As a school, we recognise that there is no single international English. Teachers at ISPP come from different countries and speak and write a number of different Englishes. It is, therefore, not possible to specify a particular variety of English for our LOI. As learners will hear different accents and dialects, part of their learning experience in the LOI will be to both appreciate and differentiate between the varieties of English worldwide.
At ISPP, we also believe that teaching and learning can occur in any language, including the host-country language, Khmer. At ISPP, translanguaging is one way to teach, learn, and interact with each other.
