We understand that, a very expected part of what it means to be human, is to experience days where things seem to go well, as well as days that seem to be full of challenges. Sometimes those challenges can be big or small, short term or long term, insignificant or very significant. Often times, these challenges can get in the way of learning and prevent a student from being as successful as possible. We call these 'barriers to learning'.
When we talk about supporting student success at ISPP, we believe that it is our role to understand which students are experiencing barriers to learning and for us to then work collaboratively in order to remove or minimize those barriers.
Accordingly, we have a team approach to supporting the success of all of our students. The Whole School Head of Student Success (Vicki Gardner) facilitates collaboration between all of the teachers, the counsellors, the EAL specialists, the learning diversity specialists, the programme coordinators, the educational psychologist, the speech and language pathologist and the leadership team in order to ensure that, once identified, students are provided with the support that they need in order to be as successful as possible.
We strongly believe in empowering the students themselves to be active participants in pursuit of their own success. We also know that our collaborative efforts will be far more impactful with the involvement of the parents, working alongside us.
With this in mind, we urge you to not hesitate to reach out to any member of the Student Success team if your child is experiencing barriers to their learning - big or small, short-term or long-lasting. Whilst we ask that you make an appointment before stopping by, we do have an open door policy, and encourage you to feel welcome to reach out to us at any time that you think that additional or alternative support might be beneficial.
