Relationships
In this module we were able to Identify the most significant people to be in our lives so far and how they made us feel. We discussed that sometimes thinking of a special person can make us feel sad, for example if our grandparent has died. We then discussed strategies coping with this sadness and know it is perfectly acceptable to feel this way.
We can also recognise when people are trying to gain power or control and know ways to demonstrate I could stand up for myself and my friends in situations where others are trying to gain power or control.
Healthy Me
By considering how to keep myself healthy, both mentally and physically, I recognise the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise and relaxation techniques. We understand:
the impact of food on the body, for example creating energy, giving comfort and altering mood.
be motivated to give my body the best combination of food for my physical and emotional health.
Dreams and Goals
I have reflected on my strengths and set
challenging but realistic goals for myself.
I understand why it is important to stretch the
boundaries of my current learning.
We learnt how to deal with racism if we see it, such as: use facts to argue and be focused, try to keep your emotions in check.
Celebrating Difference
We discussed and took part in role plays to understand how to deal with difference bullying situations. We considered the impact on the other person too.
We role played different 'power struggles' and what was thought to be 'cool' or 'uncool'. We considered what it felt like to be part of the group and how we can stop people from exerting power over us.
We watched a film about a boy called Theo, who has a visual impairment. We discussed what strengths Theo had, how he felt about his disability and what questions we would ask him.
We watched a video about a child called Archie, who has cerebral palsy. We discussed how cerebral palsy may affect Archie's life and how, if he joined us, how his day might look - from taking part in all our activities to any barriers.
Being Me In My World
In Module 1 we have been able to identify our goals for this year and understand any fears or worries about the future. We know how to express ourselves respectfully as well as making others feel valued.
Through class discussion in geography and PHSE, we understand that our actions affect other people locally and globally (with Fairtrade for example) and understand our own wants and needs. Understanding the difference between wants and needs helped us focus on what needs must be met first.
We discussed the school rules and rewards system, then related them to our own behaviour: how it felt positive to receive a reward and how we knew it was our responsibility to make the right choices. By belonging to the school community, we know our voices are heard and valued.
