Module 5
Athletics and Rounds
In athletics year 6 could apply their strength and flexibilty to throwing, running and jumping. They worked in collaboration to improve their skills and could pace themselves when running for distance and for time.
In rounders, the children learnt to play the game by the rules on a standard size pitch layout, use tactics for attacking and defending in the roll of the bowler, batter and fielder.
NC
Pupils should be taught to: use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination
Play competitive games, modified where appropriate [for example, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders and tennis], and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending
Develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance [for example, through athletics and gymnastics]
Module 4
Hockey and Football
We have practised attack and defense, setting a goal up for a team mate and run onto the ball in an attempt to score
NC -
Work collaboratively to score a goal in a variety of game situations
Communicate as a team to push forward and score a goal
Keep score of the number of goals
We have shown we can move into a space to stop attackers moving into a space and work with my partner to defend.
NC -
Develop simple tactics to defend
Communicate with a partner to devise tactics
Estimate approximately 5m from defending partner to position myself appropriately
We have been learning how to defend and attack in a game; we attempted to shoot from close range and under pressure.
NC -
Communicate as a team the best way to move forward and score goals
Work collaboratively as a team
Keep score and compare to other teams
Working in a group, we have practised our long corner routines and made improvements when needed.
NC -
Develop fluency in techniques including long corner routine
Discuss with team strategies and use appropriate language
Suggest different angles to send the ball
Module 3
Netball and Dance
This module we have learnt:
To choose a range of strategies to defend and attack.
Perform a wider range of complex skills.
Recognise good and describe good performances.
During this module we have:
Found ways to improve our coordination
Marked or passed the shot with more accuracy
Improved our organisation in and around the semi-circle
Completed a win with a rebounding ball
Stayed active to intercept a pass
Stayed onside during a game.
Composing a dance with sports moves
Use travel, turn, flight, gesture, still
Sequence the dance to understand what could happen next
We have practised a new contact lift to develop our team building and communication skills. We could explore space in the movement and perform a short sequence using the lift and stag jump.
NC - develop a movement phrase that incorporates at least two relationships and a spatial element.
Practising the Stag leap and Rebound jump.
We were able to use our social skills and communication skills to work successfully with our partners to develop a simple sequence using actions and dynamics; we can recognise the difference between actions and dynamics.
NC Developing our strength and skills
For the stag leap we needed to think about our elevation off the floor and tension in the air.
Module 2
Tag Rugby and Gymnastics
1) Play effectively in attack and defence
2) Score points against the opposition
3) Support the player with the ball
NC -
Play competitive games, modified where appropriate and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending.
Take part in outdoor activity challenges both individually and within a team.
We developed our knowledge of a base and a flyer, performing safely and developing communication with our partners.
In gymnastics this module we have been learning how to use controlled flight on to apparatus. We practised running up and using a hurdle step onto the box top (a hurdle step helps gymnasts transfer their forward speed into an upward and forward motion, allowing them the necessary height and distance from the vault).
Success Criteria:
Take weight on my hands to mount apparatus
Work effectively with a partner to create a sequence
Use a range of shapes, such as counterbalance and contrasting shapes in my balance.
NC - Develop Strength and skills
We performed advanced balances and gave constructive feedback to others.
We could include flight elements into our balance work.
Module 1
OAA
OAA has incorporated many different activities that have tested our problem solving skills both mentally and physically. We have learnt how to orientate a map to find clues, whilst working successfully in a team.
NC - take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team.
We have learnt to work collaboratively in a wide range of tasks and games. We learnt how to follow instructions carefully and tie a reef knot, to play fairly and by the rules.
This has improved our communication skills as we have learnt to listen to each other as well as give ideas, advice and opinions respectfully.
NC - Pupils should enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other. They should develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
We are learning to perform a small group balance safely, including the pyramid balance. We then learnt different variations and adaptations.
NC - develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance
We have also recognised key elements needed to make a game enjoyable using our knowledge of games to design a fun, competitive game. We can now work cooperatively to design, deliver and improve an activity.
