TSA

Rolfe's TSA (Technology Student Association) is in its second year at the school and going strong. TSA provides the application and integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts through co-curricular instruction, leadership development, competitive events and related community and outreach programs.  The club's sponsors are Ms. Kennesha Walker and Mr. Melendez. In February they stepped up to lead at Mehfoud Elementary’s Literacy and STREAM Night! Looking sharp in their official TSA shirts and ties, seven dedicated volunteers helped bring science, math, and literacy to life through hands-on technical service.

From navigating robots across Virginia to coding binary bracelets, these student leaders proved that innovation starts with giving back.

Our TSA teams supported interactive stations including:

Sphero Speedway: Robot navigation across VA landmarks.

Math Motor Challenge: Solving facts to drive Sphero Indis.

Beebots/Code & Go: Teaching coding basics to young learners.

Frank Einstein’s Glow Lab: Vocabulary meets blacklight creativity.

Binary Bracelets: Turning computer language into wearable art.

In March, John Rolfe Middle School TSA took their leadership to the next level at Ward Elementary’s GLOW STEAM Night! Five dedicated TSA volunteers transformed their space into a high-energy, immersive "Glow Room," complete with ambient music and neon lighting to showcase the power of robotics.

These student leaders didn't just run a station—they acted as technical mentors, teaching younger peers how to master logic and directional coding in real-time.

The Robotic Arena Experience featured:

Sphero Maze Challenge: A custom-designed robotic arena floor.

Technical Mentorship: Hands-on iPad training to control Sphero robots.

Precision Navigation: Guiding students through the glowing maze using real-world logic.

Immersive Environment: A high-tech "Glow Room" that brought STEAM to life!
