Reading Difficulties Risk Screening

This screening is required for students in grades TK-2nd and proctored annually by a member of the Heartwood staff (teachers or faculty).  This screening is completed remotely in Fall.  If students fall into a moderate or high risk area of concern their file is reviewed by the team of CSTs and an SST (student study team) meeting is held with the parent to discuss available supports and services.  The team will review work samples, meeting notes as well as screening results as a part of the process.  We do take into consideration exposure to computers, environment and setting when the screening occurred and other outlying factors.

Parents are provided with an option to opt out of this screening however we do not recommend this as it is very informative and can give us a glimpse into areas of need for the student.

Once a student has been screened and if we hold an SST meeting, we will provide online resources, parent support and student support to encourage progress.
