All students enrolled in grades 3-8 and 11 are eligible for Statewide Testing. It is very important for eligible children enrolled in public schools to participate in this testing. For Heartwood, it is even more important because it is one of the very few ways for our Administration and Teachers to see a child's academic progress with "data".
Students in grades 3-8 and 11 are eligible for CAASPP, which consists of English Language Arts and Math assessments (two of each).
Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 have the CAST assessment, which evaluates their knowledge of Science.
Assessments are proctored in person at various locations throughout Sonoma and Marin counties, or they can be taken at home in a remote setting. Remote assessments are monitored in a Zoom link environment. The Proctor can see all students and speak with them if needed, while the student can only see the Proctor. Students and Proctors can also send chat messages to each other.
Assessments are administered in spring every year and must be completed by the end of the school year.
Heartwood offers many programs to help support students throughout the year with the academic portions of the assessments and getting familiar with the testing platform. To see what we have to offer, please visit this page of the Parent Portal.
For official assessment practice through the Department of Education, obtain your child's SSID number from their CST and navigate to this website. Your child can practice an unlimited number of times during the year. Make sure to toggle OFF on the Guest User option and enter your child's first name and their provided SSID for best results in the practice sessions.
We very much appreciate you and the efforts it takes to complete our required testing.
