On the 28th of April, TY 1's left school at around half past nine in the morning.
Ms.Ryan and Mr. O'Meara accompanied us.
The kayaking site was on Lough Gur, near Kilfinane - approx an hour bus journey.
Once we arrived, we met three instructors who showed us the ropes.
We were allowed to chose a single or a double kayak. I went in a double kayak with Taylor.
We were kitted up with wet suits, life-jackets and helmets.
The water was unexpectedly lukewarm, and the cold was intangible once we were moving and immersed in the water.
We partook in games like tag and we also had to search for items beginning with certain letters.
I really enjoyed racing each other and the free-time we were given to mess around and have fun.
We were asked to perform tricks like standing up and balancing on the front of our kayaks too.
There was a little cafe situated beside the lake. This was a nice addition, as we indulged in a nice cup of tea.
I would deduct one star because the changing rooms were not in use, so we had to change in the car park.
3 things I enjoyed:
The break from a classroom environment
Racing each other
Playing tag
2 things I learned:
How to steer a kayak
How to reverse a kayak
1 thing I would change:
I wish we could have spent longer in there!
