Term 1:
All Transition Years were given a manual called "Choose Safety" to learn from for 6 classes.
Our teachers were instructed to take turns on paraphrasing the information from the booklet.
It's an education programme on the principles of health and safety in the workplace for senior cycle and students in further education.
I think it was a vital course because most if us have gotten work experience or jobs, and we can apply the skills learned from this course to those tasks. We can keep ourselves and others safe.
Some topics we discussed were; Hazards and risk assessment, Fire safety and Ergonomics.
I learned that Ergonomics is delegating work to the right person and also some key tips for safe lifting.
Rating - 4 stars
I gave it this many stars because I'm interested in health and safety and social topics regarding people's health. I just wish we could have done more activities and group work as it was boring at times reading from the book.
3 things I enjoyed:
Listing safety hazards in the science lab
Drawing out a risk assessment plan for the music room
Noting what we would do in the event of a fire.
2 things I have learned:
How to assess risks
How to prevent most injuries from occuring.
1 thing I would change:
I would like if teachers could have incorporated more activities into the course.
Health risks in the chemistry lab
Risks associated with typical activities
Ergonomics
