Week of 9/15/2023 V.10
A word from your Proud Principal Mrs. Garcia:
It was a very busy week! I love seeing students so engaged in class and learning. Our staff works so hard to ensure students are progressing. We not only want to make sure students are learning but we also want it to be a positive learning environment. A few weeks ago I shared that we kicked off the restroom challenge. It was boys vs. girls, to see who could keep the cleanest restroom! The winners were rewarded with bragging and a party! It was so much fun! We also had our first STEAM School! Make sure you are connected on Dojo so you can see the pictures!
Check out what's going on at Beaver Tech.

Can you solve the math problem?
Elementary school is a time when we are teaching students academic and social skills. We are working with the students on social skills like collaboration with others, independence and study skills. We are also working on academic skills and progress.
Try to answer these questions. Don't use a calculator. The kids aren't allowed to use calculators!!
I will post the answers in next week's STAR News!!! Good luck!!

Parent help needed...
Taking care of the people that take care of our students is very important.
I am looking for a parent that is interested in putting together a snack cart for our staff. The snack cart will be taken door to door to show the teachers some appreciation! Email me if you are interested in this and I can send you details! Jcgarc02@garlandisd.net

Start with Hello Week
This week we are celebrating Start with Hello week! This is a national week started by the Sandy Hook Promise. This week is all about promoting connection, inclusivity, and helping students who may feel socially isolated. Students will be celebrating this week with daily SEL lessons and by wearing green on Wednesday!
Tips for Parents and Families:
How to handle meltdowns - Often students will melt down once they are home from a long day at school. They've held it together all day, worked collaboratively with others, had self-control, and once they are home, there can be an emotional release.
Give your child some time to decompress once they are home. Offer them a healthy snack and drink. Develop a routine so they know what to expect after school.
Offer your child healthy ways to calm down. Have a calm spot they can retreat to and encourage them to put on their favorite music. Give them soft things to hug or offer a hug from mom or dad. Listen to them and let them get things off their chest. Remember, kids feel stress, just like adults do. Let them solve the problems they can and reach out to their teacher or counselor if it's a bigger issue than they can handle on their own.
