RED RIBBON WEEK
Beaver Stars will celebrate Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 25-31!
Red Ribbon Week is a time to focus on living a healthy life. Students have been learning about medicine safety, harmful drugs, and making healthy choices.
This year's theme is Be kind to your mind. Live drug free!
Check out the spirit days on our Red Ribbon flier! Encourage your child to dress up!
Important to remember: Red Ribbon will start on WEDNESDAY, Oct. 25th and run through Halloween! Students may wear a school appropriate costume on Oct. 31st. Please make sure students are not wearing anything scary or gory. No masks or props are allowed.
Check out this article about how to talk to your kids about drugs:
Tips for Parents and Families:
Teaching kids healthy habits now, will help them to grow into healthy teens and adults!
Healthy habits for elementary students should include:
Plenty of sleep!
Kids need 9-11 hours of sleep a night. Aim for a bedtime around 8 pm on school nights.
Healthy food!
Introduce kids to new, healthy foods. Kids need to be offered a new food 10-15 times before they will try it! Play a game and challenge your student to "eat the rainbow". For example, kids can eat RED strawberries, ORANGE carrots, YELLOW bell peppers, GREEN kiwi, BLUE berries, PURPLE blackberries, etc.
Exercise and fresh air!
Get outside and move your body with your child. Go for a family walk, play soccer at the park, ride your bikes, or play at a new playground.
Be kind to your mind!
Teach your child how to do a mindful activity. This could be saying one thing you are thankful for during dinner, stretching before bed, practicing deep breaths before reading a book, or saying a prayer.
Modeling good habits!
Above all, your kids are watching your lifestyle habits. Make sure they see you taking good care of yourself! Getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, being active, and managing our stress helps us all be the best parents we can be!
