Secondary School Library Technology Sign Out Policy

1. Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the responsible and equitable use of shared Chromebooks available in the secondary school library. This policy ensures that these devices are accessible to support students when their own device might not be working.

2. Eligibility:

The following groups of individuals are eligible to sign out Chromebooks from the secondary school library:

Students with their own device that is currently broken or being repaired

Students new to the school who might need time to purchase their own device

Note: Students are responsible for the battery health of their device and must ensure they have a charging cable each day. If your personal device runs out of battery the library will not provide a loaner device.

3. Device Availability:

Availability of Chromebooks is based on a first come first served basis.

If a device is not available, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for a substitute device until one is available.

4. Loan Duration:

Devices may be signed out as needed throughout the day.

Devices must be returned to the library before the end of the library session at 4.00pm each day.

Devices must not be brought home

If a device is needed for more than one day it must be checked out each day.

If a device is needed for an extended period of time the family must be in touch with the mentor teacher(s) and library to communicate a clear timeline of when a personal device will be brought in. In these rare circumstances library devices are still returned each day.

5. Borrowing Procedure:

The device must be signed out from the library and returned to the library from the front desk.

When returning the device it must not be left on the desk unattended, and must be returned to a member of the library team.

6. Acceptable Use:

Users agree to the following terms of acceptable use when borrowing laptops and iPads:

Devices are for educational purposes only, including research, assignments, and projects.
