Attendance & Absences
Parents are responsible for the regular attendance of their children. Whenever a student is absent, the parent/guardian of the student must report the absence to the school office by 9.00am. It is the responsibility of the student to make up work missed because of absences (see below). Parents may also call the office to report an absence however the use of ManageBac is preferred.
Parents must log on to ManageBac and submit their children's attendance by following the below process:
Absences
Students are allowed to be absent from school for the following reasons only:
Illness or injury of the student
Family emergency
Where the student is representing the school (e.g. sports tournament).
If there is a reasonable doubt concerning the illness claimed, a statement from an accepted medical authority may be required.
Truancy
For all absences other than those listed above the student is considered truant. If a student is suspended from school during exams, permission may be granted to write these exams at a later date.
Punctuality
Punctuality is a self-management skill and students are expected to arrive at school and to their lessons on time. If a student arrives after the start of school, the student is required to check in at the front office, receive a tardy slip and then immediately proceed to class, All EY - Grade 12 students arriving after the scheduled start time are considered tardy or late and must bring a note (see above) from a parent confirming a legitimate reason for the lateness.
Holidays
For extraordinary situations such as early leave for holidays, permission must be sought by the Principal of Student Life or Head of School in writing (significantly before the requested leave). We strongly discourage families from taking holidays during school but understand that in some circumstances this may be unavoidable.
