Coaching

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a very useful training and knowledge management tool. On the international level, every National Group receives a coach in the person of a member of the International Board.

The aim of the coaching system is to provide National Groups with a trusted person they can approach on the International Board if they are facing any difficulties or issues. The coach schedules meetings depending on the needs of each of their coaching countries. If a country is relatively well-established, calls might take place bi-monthly. If a coaching country would like to have more support, calls can be scheduled more frequently and ad hoc whenever needed.

The main focus of each coaching call should lie on the situation of the National Group. The meeting is an opportunity for the National Board members to share achievements and struggles that are keeping them from achieving their goals. The coach might simply be a listener, or they might be able to give input on how to solve the situation. The coach may also be able to help with internal difficulties by acting as a neutral outsider. Lastly, it also provides National Groups with the opportunity to enquiry about updates from the International Board and ask any questions they would like to get a better picture of the Association on the international level.

Each member of the International Board of ELSA updates the other members during a dedicated meeting in order for everyone to be aware of any issues that might concern their area. This is also important in case there are any disagreements between National Groups. This way, the coaches of the respective National Groups can discuss these issues in a trusting environment in order to find a suitable solution for all parties. But don't worry - if you share something personal or strictly confidential, your coach will not share it during the meeting.

Please note, the coaching system provided by the International Board of ELSA is for National Boards only. It is the responsibility of each National Board to implement a coaching system for their Local Groups if warranted. Nevertheless, local officers are always welcome to contact the International Board of ELSA if they have any questions or issues.
