Categories of Contacts
External Relations are a wide area of our activity. In order to facilitate the presentation of the topic, contacts' categorisation shall be done. We can distinguish various criteria:
Characteristics of the entity (according to the ICM Decision Book)
Corporate: contacts covering law firms and other companies,
Institutional: contacts covering governmental or non-governmental organisations, public administrations, private institutions, and universities or other higher education institutions.
Range of the contact (according to the ICM Decision Book)
International corporate: contacts with law firms situated in five or more countries with 100 or more legal professionals as stated in the firm’s website, and companies that do not qualify as law firms and which are present in five or more countries.
National corporate: any contact that is not an international corporate contact.
International institutional: institutions that act in more than one country and represent the headquarters or the highest respective office of a certain field of activity of an institution. Local branches of international institutions refer to institutions that represent international governmental or non-governmental or private institutions being active only in one country
National institutional: institutions that are active only within one country or on behalf of a country. Universities and other higher educational institutions present only within one European State in which there is a National Group always qualify as national institutions.
Supported area
General partners: entities supporting the general activity of the Association financially or materially (products and/or services free of charge).
Project partners: entities supporting individual projects and initiatives of the Association.
Other divisions
Value of financial support: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc.
Type of support: Educational, Academic, Technical, Legal, Media, Advocacy etc.
Type of relationship between ELSA and the entity: Partner, Sponsor, Supporter, etc.
Remember that the indicated categories are not the only ones that can be set. Each National Group may have its own external relations classification structure tailored to its needs. It is important that it is logical, uniform and fair.
