Advanced Maths

COURSE CONTENT


Theory

Students are required to study Mathematics up until the end of Year 10. Advanced Maths runs throughout the whole year and is designed to prepare students for VCE Maths Methods and VCE Specialist Mathematics. The content of Advanced Maths is designed to challenge and extend strong math students.


In this subject, the topics students will study are:

• Algebra and Linear Functions

• Polynomial Functions

• Trigonometry

• Circular Functions

• Probability and Statistics

• Surds and Indices

• Logarithmic Functions

• Simultaneous Equations and Functions


Practical

Much of the course is theoretical; however there is some scope in this math subject for practical activities. Students will also be utilising Scientific and/ or CAS Calculators.


PREREQUISITE

Students must achieve a satisfactory result in the Advanced Maths Entry Test to be allowed into the Advanced Maths course.


PATHWAYS INTO VCE OR VCE VM

Students can go from Advanced Maths into VCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics.

Students can also elect to choose VCE General Mathematics in Year 11.
