COURSE CONTENT


Theory

Through the use of practical and theoretical learning experiences, this unit of study provides students with a taste of VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies and introduces concepts relating to outdoor environments and human experiences. In particular, students will develop leadership and teamwork skills, and explore safe participation in outdoor environments, motivations for participating in outdoor environments, and healthy environments.

Tasks include: 

• Safe practices in outdoor environments

• Risks and risk assessment

• Minimal impact guidelines 

• Preparation for outdoor experiences

• Motivations for outdoor experiences

• How we respond to environments

• Healthy environments


COMPULSORY PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES

In order to meet the outcomes, students are required to participate in three practical activities with the semester that directly relate to theory content studied. These compulsory activities include day trips and two-night camps where students will need to provide their own food.

It is important to note that practical activities must be completed in order for students o achieve a satisfactory result on theory outcomes related to practical activities. Students must not select this course if they are unwilling to attend all practical activities during the course.


MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT

Students will be charged a fee for the subject which will be for the entire semester. 

The approximate cost of the subject will be $250.00. Payment details will be sent home and need to be paid by the due date.
