COMPULSORY SUBJECTS
English and Maths are compulsory and run for the entire year.
English (compulsory)
Students must complete two units of English/EAL
(one each semester)
EAL at VCE has eligibility requirements.
Maths (compulsory)
Students must complete Two units of Maths in Year 10
(one each semester) and will study one of the following options:
Advanced Maths: Two units per year
(one each semester)
NAPLAN results, Advanced Maths entry test results and end of year PAT testing will determine if advanced Maths is an option.

Compulsory Electives:
Students must choose at least one unit to complete for one semester from the areas of:
• Science
• Humanities
• Health and Physical Education
• Technology and the Arts
Optional Electives
Students are able to choose other units to complete over the year from any of the areas listed
They should choose subjects based on what they enjoy and are successful in.

Subject descriptions are currently predicted and could change as Homestead Senior Secondary College develops its Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum.
If your child is choosing a specialist elective that includes practical components, please be aware that there is an additional materials contribution to cover necessary items used throughout the year.
Homestead Senior offers a standard curriculum free of charge to all Year 10 & VCE students. However, specialist subjects are extra to this standard program, and to help sustain these valuable courses, the college asks families to contribute financially.
To secure your child’s place in the chosen elective, a minimum deposit of 60% of the subject fee is required on the same night as subject selections. Selections for specialist subjects will not be registered without minimum payment.

Food Studies- $80
Product Design and Technology- Textiles- $100
Product Design and Technology- Wood- $100
Outdoor Education- $250
VET- Certificate II in Workplace Skills- $200
Please note: CSEF can be used and payment plans can be organised via the front office.
A timetable example that the majority of students in year 10 could look like..
English and Maths, all year including six electives, three each semester, completing at least one subject from each domain.

This student will complete four electives, two each semester, while still completing at least one subject from each domain.
