VCE Subjects
Students have the opportunity to undertake a VCE subject in Year 10.
Students that are interested in completing a VCE Access subject will need to complete an application form and submit the form along with their year 10 subject selection form.
Information regarding VCE subjects can be found by following this link.
Completing a VCE Access subject can be advantageous as this subject becomes a sixth subject on the completion of VCE at year 12, when the majority of students complete five subjects. This subject will contribute towards the ATAR at the end of year 12.
Students should be mindful that the workload at VCE can be significantly higher than at year 10.
Choice of VCE Access subject should align with chosen pathways
A student cannot apply for VCE Access at unit 2 or 3.
A student is unable to change VCE Access subjects.
VCE Readiness and Advancement Test:
The majority of subjects that are offered at year VCE are available for year 10 students to choose as a VCE Access subject.
The date and time of the test will be emailed to families that have completed the Transition to school form and have received enrollment packs from Homestead via email.
Students will need to complete the VCE Access application form and submit a copy of their latest school report.
Unfortunately, Unit 1 Literature, English Language, General Maths, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Maths will not be available as VCE Access subjects in 2026.
Important Information for Elective Subject Selection and Payment
If your child is choosing a specialist elective that includes practical components, please be aware that there is an additional materials contribution to cover necessary items used throughout the year.
Homestead Senior offers a standard curriculum free of charge to all Year 10 & VCE students. However, specialist subjects are extra to this standard program, and to help sustain these valuable courses, the college asks families to contribute financially.
To secure your child’s place in the chosen elective, a minimum deposit of 60% of the subject fee is required on the same night as subject selections. Selections for specialist subjects will not be registered without minimum payment.
Subjects that require a family contribution:
Food Studies- $80
Product Design and Technology- Textiles- $100
Product Design and Technology- Wood- $100
Outdoor Education- $250
VET- Certificate II in Workplace Skills- $200
Please note: CSEF can be used and payment plans can be organised via the front office.
VCE Access commencement:
If you are accepted to a VCE Access Subject you will be required to attend the lessons during our commencement week- 2nd - 6th December (non attendance will mean you can not undertake the subject in 20205)
VCE Access applications will need to include a recommendation from a teacher at their current school.
Students will need to write reasons as to why they should be considered for the VCE Access program.
A copy of the latest semester report should be submitted with the application.
