Subject: Administration and IT (Code TAIF)

Description of Course: 

Administration is a growing sector which cuts across the entire economy and offers wide-ranging employment opportunities.  Moreover, administrative and IT skills have extensive application not only in employment but also in other walks of life. 

Students will learn IT and Administration to solve business problems and will become confident in using a range of different Microsoft software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access as well as making use of email and calendars.

Throughout the course, students will gain confidence in a range of skills and become confident at problem solving and using the correct software for the task. 

Subject: Computing Science (Code TCIF) 

Computing Science plays an important part of society and students will get a chance to study different elements of Computing Science.  Students will develop an understanding of computer security and keeping their computer and themselves safe while online.  Computing Science looks at real world applications of AI (Artificial Intelligence), creating a discussion about it's future in our world as well as learning the skills to design and develop their own AI. They will study computer structure and hardware which will help them understand how computers work and will learn about computer networks.  They will get to grips with programming and will be given the opportunity to learn different programming languages including Python. 

Students will also learn about the importance of information systems by designing and creating databases which can store vast amounts of data and learn about how they are used by organisations such as Google, Facebook and YouTube.  They will also learn about website design and development and will learn how to create websites using the HTML, CSS and JavaScript programming languages. 

Subject: Graphic Communication (Code TGCF) 

Graphic Communication is a classroom based course, which involves creating graphics manually and digitally.  Learners will develop their skills and abilities skill in reading, interpreting and creating different graphic communications.  These will include:

SUBJECT: Practical Woodworking (Code TPWF) 

Practical Woodworking is a workshop based subject, where students develop practical woodworking skills, practical creativity and problem solving. Learners develop understanding of safe working practices in a workshop environment, and awareness of sustainability issues in a practical woodworking context.

Learners will develop their skills and abilities in different woodworking techniques. These will include:  

SUBJECT: Design and Manufacture (Code TDMF) 

Learners will develop solutions to a given design problem through the use of research, evaluation, design, modelling and communication skills.

This will be achieved through a wide range of practical and design based classroom activities including: analysing design briefs, generating ideas, producing a design solution, producing models and evaluating work.  Learners will also learn new workshop skills and procedures that will build confidence in the use of tools, materials and machinery through the completion of their final working prototypes. 

A portfolio of learners’ work will be completed throughout the course to accompany the design prototypes and final models. 

Subject: Health & Food Technology (Code THFF) 

This course will be delivered as an introduction to the progressive path of our Health & Food technology course through from National 3 to Higher level. 

The students will study three mandatory units:

Food for Health

Students will develop knowledge of nutrients and associated sources to support the individual needs of different groups of people and understand a range of issues associated with the drive to achieve a well-balanced diet so reducing the risk of diet related illnesses/conditions. 

Food product development

There will be the opportunity to relate their learning through a variety of tasks, both individual and as a group, looking at issues of diet, exercise and lifestyle choices.  They will undertake a challenge to develop a suitable dish for an identified need as part of their Food Product development topic. 

Contemporary food issues

The final area will research current contemporary food issues and the impact on the consumer along with consumer trends which will equip the students with essential life skills and knowledge. 

Practical tasks – students will cook every week to help build their skills & consolidate their learning. 

The course will involve both theory and practical tasks.
