S3 FURTHER Opportunities

Learning Opportunities beyond Core Time and Options Courses

Students have additional opportunities for learning beyond subject classrooms. These can often become avilable, as our year progresses.  Further detail about those opportunities will be provided after the Easter Break, and what we know at the moment is described below:

Course Title: Tots and Teens

Length of Course: 13 weeks

Until recently, we had our own nursery within the school. Tots and Teens was a playgroup which was supported by the school and students, some of whom were be involved in the day-to-day running of the playgroup.  Two very experienced and qualified childcare practitioners managed the playgroup on a day-to-day basis.

Now that nursery has closed down, and the nursery provision is offered elsewhere in our cluster. We are currently working with East Lothian Council to finalise a similar pathway for our S3 students keen to work in a nursery setting.

East Lothian Works Vocational Opportunities (Schools)

East Lothian Works offer a variety of opportunities for S3 students. At the moment, only one course is available, although others often become available as the year progresses.

The following cours offers an opportunity to learn and develop social and practical skills which will help you to gain employment, training, university or a place at college.  Some of the benefits of participating in this opportunities include the chance to meet students from other schools and learn outwith a formal school setting.

EAST LOTHIAN WORKS OFFERING FOR S3

Notes for Students

All of the programmes are designed to make it more likely for you to get a job, training place or a place at college or university.  All of the programmes have a day and time written down but this might change depending on how many people apply for the course.

Any travel you have to do to get to and from the programme will be paid by East Lothian Council.

If you want to apply, you will have to take time out of school to do the course and keep up to date with the school work you have missed.

When you are out of school you must remember that you are representing the school and should present yourself maturely.

Programmes have limited places so you must complete an application form and have a parental consent form signed.

If you are interested in any course, please ask your guidance teacher for an application form.  The teacher will also have to make a referral on your behalf by completing a referral form.

Referral Process

The referral process has two elements:

The referral forms will be emailed out to all guidance staff soon and must be completed electronically and e-mailed back to sender.  In addition, to the completed electronic referral you must also submit a completed Pupil Application which incorporates the required consent forms.  Any application form submitted without consent will not be accepted.
