School Regulations (järjestyssäännöt)
School regulations in Ressun lukio (applicable to both the national section and the IB section)
These regulations have been approved of by the management board of Ressun lukio. The regulations used in Ressun lukio are based on the shared policies of all upper secondary schools of the City of Helsinki:
The students' unanimous message is that there is no room for any kind of bullying, harassment, discrimination or violence during studies, in the school corridors, in social media or any other sphere of activity. Our school spirit is built on a sense of community and caring. The way we behave and the words we use have an impact on everyone's school experience. Choose your words and actions wisely.
These regulations apply to the school premises, school hours and events clearly linked with the school. The premises include the building, the yard and the street area. School hours start with the first lesson and end with the last, and they also include any other events organised by the school.
The purpose and application of the school regulations
The following rules aim to ensure that the school can offer good work and study conditions and that everyone here can work in peace, feel comfortable and safe, and their studies can proceed uninterrupted. The regulations play an important role in achieving the goals of the school. The regulations apply on the school premises and in all study-related events where the students represent the school. When there is an event arranged by some collaborating organisation and/or which takes place in on their premises, their rules must be followed as well. All school operations must follow laws and regulations as well as the orders, rules and guidelines of the school and of the city of Helsinki. These school regulations apply during the school hours, from the start of the first lesson of the day to the end of the last lesson, and during all events and excursions organised by the school at any time.
2. General behaviour
In learning environments, everyone must behave appropriately, show good manners and respect for all other people.
Students must not bully or harass others. They must conduct themselves so that they do not compromise the safety or health of other students, the school community or the learning environment. (Lukiolaki - Act on General Upper Secondary Education - 1.8.2022).
3. Working hours
The students must comply with the working hours of the school and always inform the school about their absences.
4. Safe and undisturbed work and learning environment
Everybody is responsible for maintaining a safe, undisturbed and orderly work and learning environment.
Any kind of mental or physical violence, harassment or bullying is forbidden. No discrimination of any kind is allowed. Mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets etc, can be used in class only to support learning activities - any exceptions made to this rule must be specifically agreed on together with the teacher.
In the Ruoholahdenkatu 23 building, students must leave outdoor shoes in the downstairs lobby and switch to indoor shoes.
5. Safety
Any regulations of the school or of other learning environments related to safety must be followed. Deficiencies in work safety must immediately be reported to a teacher or other staff member. Students must dress according to the requirements of their studies or work, as well as according to the requirements of other learning environments when applicable. Everyone who studies or works in the school is responsible for contributing to their own safety as well as the safety of everyone else.
6. Handling property
The property and materials owned by the school or other learning environments must be handled and stored carefully, following the advice given and according to the principles of sustainable development.
In case of such property being damaged or lost, the student must report the event immediately to a teacher. The student is liable to compensate for damage caused intentionally or negligently (when something has been neglected or done carelessly, recklessly or thoughtlessly). Possible liability for compensation is always determined on a case-by-case basis.
7. Intoxicating substances and smoking
The school is a place where intoxicating substances or cigarettes are not allowed. The use, sale, transmission and display of nicotine products (e.g. tobacco, snuff and electronic cigarettes) is forbidden on the school premises, in events organised by the school, or during school-related study visits. It is forbidden to be in possession of, use, sell, transmit or display intoxicating substances, or be under their influence, on the school premises, in events organised by the school or during school-related study visits.
8. Traffic and parking on the school premises
There are no parking places for students on the school premises.
9. Rule violations
The violation of these regulations results in disciplinary actions, such as a written warning or temporary suspension for a maximum of one year, in accordance with the Act on General Upper Secondary Education. Other measures include, for example, removal from a teaching space or from an event organized by the school, and being banned from attending instruction for a maximum of three working days.
10. Creating and updating of the regulations
The school staff, students and their guardians participate in creating the regulations used in the school, and the regulations are updated every school year when needed.
11. Informing the school community about the regulations
The students, guardians and staff are informed about the school regulations regularly so that everyone has access to current information. Students are informed about the regulations at the start of the school year during student counselling activities and whenever needed. In addition, information about school regulations is available online as well as via a possible study guidebook/calendar etc.
12. Following the school regulations
The staff and students of the school are required to familiarize themselves with the regulations and to obey them.
