The course provides an introduction to the study of the structure and function of organisms, the classification of organisms and basics of evolution theory including biological variation, natural selection and adaptation. The course includes practical work and lab experiments and introduces how to present biological data.
OPTIONAL COURSE. This course is compulsory for those students who are planning to take Biology as DP subject and it is also very useful for the ESS students. The course provides an introduction to the field of ecology and environmental problems, such as climate change, environmental pollution or loss of biodiversity and their possible solutions. The course includes practical work.
The course concentrates on the structure and characteristics of matter. The topics include atomic structure, periodic table, chemical bonds and calculations about amount of substance and concentration. The structure of matter is studied through practical experiments and simulations.

The course concentrates on organic chemistry and how chemical compounds are classified into different groups according to their structure and reactions. The second part of this course is focused on quantitative chemistry involving reaction stoichiometry. Practical work includes determination of unknown concentration of a sample and ester synthesis.
Economics is a social science that studies the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. The DP economics course uses economic theories to examine human behavior at three levels: at the level of producers and consumers in individual markets (microeconomics), at the level of the government and the national economy (macroeconomics), and at an international level where countries are becoming increasingly interdependent through international trade and the movement of labour and capital (the global economy). The pre-year course serves as an introduction to the DP economics course, focusing on basic concepts and the way economists approach the world.
Optional course serves as an introduction to economic life from the perspective of entrepreneurship. During the course the students develop a business plan based on realistic constraints and pitch their ideas to a mixed panel of experts including non-school staff members. The course aligns with the national interest in entrepreneurship cultivation at the secondary level.
An introduction to language in cultural contexts and language as a tool in mass communication. The course focuses on non-literary text types and introduces the skill of textual analysis.
An introduction to the study of literature written in English. The course will focus on the study of short stories, and students will familiarise themselves with the language of literary analysis. Written assignments will revolve around developing essay writing and textual analysis skills.
Investigation of English literature and cultures continues. The focus in this course is on poetry, and attention will be paid to developing skills associated with poetry analysis and textual analysis writing.
A variety of IB Diploma Programme issues will be addressed. The course aims to prepare students for the IB Diploma Programme and further improve academic vocabulary skills.
This course is taught at the same time with A Finnish. It is compulsory for students not taking Finnish A. The purpose of the course is to improve argumentative skills through debating as well as work for the first time with an entire novel.
Supplementary course for improving academic writing and speaking skills. During this course the students get to improve their overall language skills with focus on reading, writing and analysis. through various activities to prepare them for their future studies in English.
ESS is both a complex and contemporary course that engages students in the challenges of 21st century environmental issues. Consequently, it requires its students to develop a diverse set of skills, knowledge and understanding from different disciplines. Students will develop the ability to perform research and investigations and to participate in philosophical, ethical, and pragmatic discussions of the issues involved from the local to the global level. The pre-year course serves as an introduction to the DP ESS course and it is compulsory for those who want to include ESS in their DP studies. The course will focus on basic concepts within nutrient cycling, global change (global warming) and demographics.

Perehdytään erilaisten tekstilajien ominaispiirteisiin. Harjoitellaan oman tekstin suunnittelua, muokkaamista ja viimeistelyä. In accordance with the IB language policy, these courses (preSU1, preSU2 and preSU3) are compulsory for all students who want to include Finnish B in their IB Diploma studies. PreSU8 is a Finnish course for beginners and according to the IB language policy, this course must be taken even though a student wouldn't choose Finnish as a DP subject.

Introduction to the German language and culture. This course starts with the very basic language skills and no prior knowledge of the language is required from the students.
This is an introductory course to history. It will give the students a good general knowledge on cultural history with an emphasis on European culture, science, art, religion, and media. Students will give small presentations.
OPTIONAL COURSE. The topic of the course is Finnish history with an emphasis on the time before the Finnish independence. It will provide the students with the ability to understand and analyse the formation of Finnish culture and identity.
This is the first of the two compulsory courses for everyone, making sure that a good base is set for further mathematics studies. The main topics are sets, indices and surds, linear equations and inequalities, simultaneous equations, quadratic equations and factorisation.
This is the second compulsory course for everyone. After this course the student will choose either SL or HL courses, depending on whether they're aiming for SL or HL mathematics in the DP. The main topics are quadratic functions and inequalities, quadratic optimisation and logarithms.

This course leads you to the nature of scientific investigations. It will teach you the basics skills needed to write a scientific report. The course deals with questions like how to write a good research question, how to design an experiment, how to analyse data and how to evaluate the research process. You will also learn important data-processing skills, like features of different spreadsheets and graphing. A proper report includes of course in-text citations too.
The importance of Swedish now and in the future. The course revises and widens the vocabulary and structures learned in comprehensive school. It concentrates on familiar topics such as school, sports and music.
Well-being, human relations and good life. The course entails discussions in pairs and groups as well as reading and writing. The themes include everyday life, e.g. clothes, living, health, travel and food.
