Information on the MacBook Exchange for 2025-2026 School Year
Schoology allows you to "link" your courses so that you can work more efficiently. Rather than having separate courses, you will be able to link them all together and share the same set of materials, updates, grade setup, etc. You only will need to create material and set up your gradebook once! No more copying classroom content to multiple classes, and instead save time/streamline your workflow!

The sections must be within the same Course.
The sections must be associated with the same grading period.
Enrollment must be unique across the linked sections. There cannot be any overlap in the students.
The sections must have the same Course Admins.
*This only works for the same courses such as 5 sections of English and will NOT work for someone who teaches one section of Algebra 1, one section of Algebra 1 Honors, and one section of Geometry. You can only link the same course!*
*If it does not meet these requirements, you will notice the course/section will be greyed out when you try to link them

After going to your:
"Courses" ➡️ "My Courses", there are a couple of steps that need to be completed in order to link your courses. *Click here for step by step or watch the GIF to the left 👈🏻 *
🚨 Tip: You will first need to designate a "master section" which I recommend to be the class listed with the lowest number, earliest period of the day, etc. depending on how your school labels it.
If you need to unlink your linked sections at any point during the school year, be aware that if you separate linked sections, only the master section retains the materials, setup, grades, and data. When you link or unlink sections, student assignment submissions in the child section(s) are also not recoverable. Click this link to find out more information about "unlinking".
No! Linking should only be done at the beginning of a grading period/class change such as the start of the year or at the end of a semester with a new set of students. Schoology strongly advises against linking or unlinking sections once school has started.
Yes! Even though your classes are linked, you can still customize which sections you are sending updates, materials, assessments, discussions, etc. to. By default, it goes to ALL sections, but you can customize the individual sections as you need to.
No, even though your classes are linked, the gradebook will be separated by sections for you to access individually.
Any change you make such as an assignment instructions, discussion prompts, changing an assessment question, etc., the changes will apply to any section that it is assigned to.
Even with linked courses, it is a good idea to always use the "view course as" feature and select a student to see what they are actually seeing in terms of if a folder, assignment, etc. is published/unpublished.
