Assistants can assist you in an amazing variety of tasks. You can enter specific requests, or try one of the many ‘chat actions’ available. Conversations are saved for later reference.

Tools are teacher-focused tools to help you create, design, and implement different activities in your classroom. These are not meant for student usage. Similar to other platforms like MagicSchoolAI, there are a lot of tools available, but here are some that I think are beneficial for all of us:

Text Translator: Using AI tools to translate text over machine text translation services can provide a more accurate translation. However, this should not be used for private information that includes student information. Strictly for document translation.
Worksheet: By including your grade level and standard and even attaching PDF information to the prompt, you are able to get a really nice supplemental practice worksheet that you can easily export to GoogleDocs!
Build Your Own: This is my favorite tool! I've used it for creating amazing menus/choice boards for projects. As always, the more information you can provide, the better the output will be!

Exploring Spaces

SchoolAI has a lot of Spaces already created for you to implement in your classroom. These are designed with educational outcomes and embedded standards. Here are some things to try out!

Search Spaces: Type in a book you are reading (i.e. Catcher in the Rye), a class you are teaching (i.e. AP Government), a concept for an upcoming lesson (Photosynthesis), or even a person you want your students to interact with (Abraham Lincoln).
Discover Spaces: By clicking on the Spaces Menu and then selected Discover you will be taken to a menu where you see tons of different options available including Exit Tickets, Bell Ringers, and much more!

Historic Figure Chatbot

What is Sidekick?

A Sidekick is a friendly AI assistant for your students, designed to help them tackle a wide range of problems in any given subject. Its primary purpose is to offer helpful solutions and answers, and engage in stimulating and insightful conversations about classroom topics you've assigned to the class. If your students ask Sidekick a question, it will provide them with an answer.

Think of a Sidekick as a personal tutor for your students that can help them conduct research, understand subjects, and get assistance when needed. Or, it can talk to your students about any topic in a safe and monitored environment!

It can help:

Answer any question your students might have about any topic
Help students work through mathematical equations
Make complicated subjects easier to understand
Check student comprehension of a subject or topic learned in class
Engage in thoughtful conversations with your student about challenging or sensitive subjects in a supportive and secure environment

What is a Space?

Spaces are student-centered, AI-powered learning experiences that you create and students interact with. Think of Spaces as an extension of yourself as a teacher. They allow each student to get individualized teaching and interactions at their own pace, tailored for their unique needs.

Applications of this tool are limited only by your imagination. Spaces allow your students to:

Chat with Fredrick Douglas, Leonardo Da Vinci, or other historical figures
Start or end the day with a topic and personalized conversation about the lesson
Follow a YouTube video and get commentary about the content
Work with with a subject tutor to ask questions about their assignments
Learn new languages or work within their own

Using Sidekick with Students

Students can take advantage of AI’s powerful capabilities to explore various topics, answer questions, quiz themselves, and more. You have full access to all chat sessions, allowing you to monitor student activity.

❶ Create Sidekick

Tell Sidekick exactly what you want it want to do. An example would be: Help my students brainstorm topics for an informational essay based on a topic that they are interested in.
Describe your class to the Sidekick. This can include grade level and any information that you feel would be important for the SK to know!
Tell the Sidekick how you want it to interact with your students. Do you want it to be a conversation? How about tutoring style. Maybe I want AI to brainstorm with them and suggest other topics that maybe they haven't thought of.
Include some guardrails on the Chatbot. Set explicit rules such as don't give them the answers, but provide feedback on sentence structure and grammatical errors.

❷ Assign Sidekick

After you have launched your side kick is ready to go! Just click on Use Space Code and copy the URL.

Pro-Tip: Draw attention to the Chatbot! Either post it as an update and pin it for quick and easy access, or you can use in-line pages to display your link in a more user friendly manner!

❸ Monitor Activity

When click on Spaces, select Sessions to view all of your open sessions to see the current activity.
When opening a session, you will see all of the conversations and how they are progression along.

Important Note: Because students are not logging in, they can choose any name to converse with the AI Chatbot. If they are conversing inappropriately, there is no way for us to determine who is actually is. That being said, you as the teacher are the only ones who are able to see those conversations.
